The structure of the Residential Care Home, located in Sinalunga and owned by the Public Personal Services Company ‘Istituto Maria Redditi’, has been included in the social welfare services programme for the Valdichiana Senese area since its construction, and is currently authorised to operate with 64 residential places, of which 54 are for non-self-sufficient elderly people, 10 for self-sufficient elderly people and 5 for non-self-sufficient elderly people using the day service. In the recent new regional planning of residential services for non-self-sufficient elderly people, the Valdichiana Health Authority has included the opening of two new facilities (Chiusi and Torrita di Siena), resulting in a drastic reduction in the use of the Sinalunga facility. Consequently, the Val di Chiana Health Authority’s social and health planning includes the creation of a new day centre for people with Alzheimer’s disease in the ward that is becoming available in the Sinalunga nursing home, owned by the A.P.S.P. Istituto Redditi, a new Day Centre for people with Alzheimer’s disease, characterised by a high level of care and organisational complexity for a module designed for 8-12 people, with the possibility of “residential” accommodation for particular situations of urgency and severity.
