The exhibition held at the Magazzini del Sale in Siena was an opportunity to share the important private collection of Sienese art that architect Simonpietro Salini made available in one of the historic sites of Sienese art and culture, the salt warehouses in the public palace. The theme of the exhibition traces the golden age of Sienese art from the 13th century to the end of the 15th century. The exhibition, curated by our studio, was structured chronologically, with the first level covering the period from 1215 to 1278, “Siena and Byzantium”, and from 1278 to 1318, “Duccio Il Patriarca”, while the second level covered the period from 1348 to 1403 ‘After the Plague’, from 1403 to 1438 and from 1423 to 1487. The aim was to make the exhibition attractive and evocative, while avoiding any competition with the unique and irreplaceable works, within austere and disorganised spaces, so that visitors, walking through the spaces in the light that enhances the severe and important works, would have the sensation of retracing the history of those years. In this guise, the project makes the exhibition understated, marked by maximum simplicity and rigour, without protagonism, with light as its guide: perfectly calibrated for each work.
