The building complex known as “Ex-Meccanotessile” is a vast architectural complex located in the western part of the municipality of Florence, specifically in the Rifredi district. The architectural complex, currently in its raw state, extends between street Maestri del Lavoro, street Valerio Santelli, and street Taddeo Alderotti and consists of two separate buildings positioned in a V-shape, covering a total area of 27,500 square meters. The project involves the creation of shared common areas and 50 mini apartments for families (2-3 people) and individuals. All the technical, aesthetic, and functional design choices proposed stem from the desire to maintain and not alter the qualities, values, and aesthetic characteristics of the building. To this end, measures have been proposed to improve the efficiency of the building envelope, conceal the plant equipment, and use finishes and materials compatible with the existing structure. The main design objective was to enhance the distinctive features of the existing buildings and, above all, to focus on common areas and accessibility, promoting a welcoming atmosphere and socialization.
