Executive design and safety coordination during the design phase

The design of the new school is characterised by its contemporary architecture, which aims to maintain a close conceptual link with the shapes, colours and materials of local tradition, seeking to preserve a connection with a settlement and landscape that expresses very significant values but which, at the same time, incorporates innovative design choices and approaches in a way that combines current criteria for earthquake safety, environmental sustainability and durability, and easy maintenance of the building elements over time. The aim of the project is to create a floor plan that meets both the needs of contemporary children’s spaces and the specific characteristics of the location. The territorial matrices of the project are simple, and their observance defines an overall layout that is strongly related to the context. The structural construction technology chosen is XLAM. As for the opaque walls, the best composition of the package was evaluated from the point of view of thermal response. The glazed parts will be made with PVC frames and low-emissivity double glazing, paying particular attention to controlling the surface temperature to keep it below the legal values. The aims of the project pursue the objective of good reconstruction principles combined with an optimal percentage of material recycling, producing virtuous effects also in future and related policies: Evaluating actions according to a Life Cycle Assessment principle allows the environmental impact of a good or service to be quantified throughout its life cycle and prior to production. The opportunity that is created tends towards a level of environmental design that takes into account both abiotic and biotic resources, i.e. those related to living beings, translating what we would like to identify in a less circumstantial way as sustainable development in compliance with nZEB (early Zero Energy Building, a building with almost zero energy consumption), but above all to allow children to grow up in a place recognisable for the teaching it aims to provide beyond the classroom, the cultural infrastructure par excellence. From the concept of resilience to regeneration, to learn how to live in a new world.
