Enhanced technical and economic feasibility study

The project to build the new ‘La Bicocca’ nursery, financed with PNRR funds, focuses on creating a modern, welcoming and safe facility for children aged between 0 and 3 years. In addition to meeting specific functional and performance requirements, the building also plays an important educational role through its architecture and is designed to offer a stimulating environment, characterised by spacious, bright rooms equipped with the best materials. Today, there is a need to rethink educational spaces, to adapt them to technological and pedagogical innovations, to enable them to incorporate constantly evolving teaching methods and to transform them into attractive places for the entire community. The facility is designed to accommodate 60 children, divided into four classes. Each age group has its own classroom, which becomes a “microcosm” in which various activities take place, including practical activities (toilets), play, lunch and rest. The recognisability of a self-contained space, although permeable to the outside, is a fundamental aspect for children to be able to move freely and discover it as a place “tailored to their needs”. Even in the construction of the outdoor area, solutions that ensure adequate soil permeability and proper rainwater drainage are preferred. The structure will consist of several sections, recognisable by their different colours, each of which has been designed to meet the specific needs of children according to their different ages. Of fundamental importance are the outdoor spaces directly connected to the classrooms for the psychological and physical well-being of the children who attend the institute, but also for the staff who work there. Access to the outdoor spaces, which are directly connected to the classrooms, has been designed to allow children to explore and discover the world around them in a safe way, to interact with their playmates and to develop their motor skills. Children who attend nursery school spend many hours indoors, and the outdoor spaces directly connected to the classrooms provide an opportunity for physical activity, fresh air and regeneration. The aims of the project pursue the objective of good reconstruction principles combined with an optimal percentage of material recycling, producing virtuous effects also in future and related policies: Evaluating actions according to a Life Cycle Assessment principle allows the environmental impact of a good or service to be quantified throughout its life cycle and prior to production. The opportunity that is created tends towards a level of environmental design that takes into account both abiotic and biotic resources, i.e. those related to living beings, translating what we would like to identify in a less circumstantial way as sustainable development in compliance with nZEB (early Zero Energy Building, a building with almost zero energy consumption), but above all to help young people grow up in a place that is recognisable for the teaching it aims to provide beyond the classroom, the cultural infrastructure par excellence. From the concept of resilience to regeneration, to learn how to live in a new world.
